What to Expect When He’s Expecting: A Presentation on Transmasculine Reproduction:
An expansive conversation of transmasculine reproduction, equipping attendees with up-to-date, evidence-based, non-judgmental information on transgender bodies and what they are capable of. The content will cover the history, science, and experience of transgender reproduction, and will touch on transgender parenthood and areas of research that need further funding and consideration.
At the end of this workshop, the learner will be able to:
1) Discuss the history and science of transgender health care, as well as the effects of hormones on the body’s sexual anatomy;
2) Analyze the experience of transgender pregnancy and the need for trauma-informed care and allyship
Combating Transphobic Legislation with Inclusive Sex Ed:
Since the beginning of 2024, over 660 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced across the country, the majority of which target transgender youth in particular. Many of these bills are backed by pseudoscience and false information targeting gender affirming care and the affects of hormones on the body. In this workshop, we will be going through an expansive conversation of transgender reproduction that will allow you to give your clients or students the inclusive sex education they need, equipping them with up-to-date, evidence-based, non-judgmental information so that they are able to make safe and informed decisions with their bodies. The content will cover the history, science, and experience of transgender reproduction, and will touch on the legal movement determined to hide it.
At the end of this workshop, the learner will be able to:
1) Discuss the history of transgender medicine, as well as the effects of hormones on the body’s sexual anatomy;
2) Analyze the growing legislative movement attacking the transgender community and the rhetoric utilized by legislators and special interest groups
LGBTQ+ Legislative Debrief & Resources For Entering 2025:
To better understand the future political climate for the LGBTQ+ community here in California, it is worth considering the last two years in review; both nationally and within the state. Common types of legislation are likely to continue to be introduced at every level of government across the country, and what has failed to pass in the past is likely to be re-introduced. This workshop will prepare you for the year 2025 and teach you how to both read and keep track of state-based legislation that affects the LGBTQ+ community.
It offers two free takeaway documents that you can share with your staff, families, and students: an LGBTQ+ legislative debrief for entering 2025, and a comprehensive resource guide that is intended to help LGBTQ+ people and allies locate services covering a wide range of intersectional issues and needs. The resources are categorized loosely into topics such as; administrative resources, community and non-profit resources, family resources, general resources, legal resources, mental and physical health resources, sex ed/family planning resources, and youth resources.
Trans Rights in California:
This workshop will prepare you for the year 2025 by going through the major legal protections against discrimination that trans people are guaranteed in the state of California. The workshop will also teach you how to both read and keep track of state-based legislation that affects the trans community.
Attendees will take home two FREE documents that can be shared with your staff, families, friends, and students: an LGBTQ+ legislative debrief for entering 2025, and a comprehensive resource guide that is intended to help LGBTQ+ people and allies locate services covering a wide range of intersectional issues and needs.
LGBTQ+ Thrive Guide: A guide for school districts to better support their LGBTQ+ community:
Over the last decade of LGBTQ+ activism within the Castro Valley Unified School District—through GSAs, alliances, educational programming, marches, community events, school murals, and more—students have remained not only the powerhouse of the movement, but the primary beneficiary of the changes brought about. Through a sustained and concerted effort; teachers, staff, families, and community members have assumed the roles of essential stakeholders in this district-based activism, and together they have provided and will continue to provide the building blocks necessary for the creation of a safer and more supportive environment—not just on campus, but throughout the wider Castro Valley community.
This presentation will provide a summary and tour of Castro Valley Unified School District’s “LGBTQ+ Thrive Guide,” a written toolkit detailing the history of Castro Valley and its many LGBTQ+ initiatives with the intent to offer other school districts seeking to better support their LGBTQ+ community a framework for action and ideas to pull inspiration from. The guide is rich in resources, case studies, best practices, advice, examples, explanations, and templates to help each stakeholder at every step of the work.
